The challenge for people professionals
I suspect you chose your job to make a difference, to make work a better, fairer place where people grow and thrive, and so does your organisation. If so, you’re not alone: 72% of HR practitioners surveyed by People Management in 2023 say HR aims to make the world a better place¹.
The trouble is, the challenges are many and complex. It’s hard to know where to start and crucially, when to stop. Your leaders want fast fixes to behaviour, culture and wellbeing, whilst issues like AI, inequality and the mental health crisis need addressing too.
It’s easy to become overwhelmed and leave your needs to last. In this context, it’s key to consider: whilst you’re looking after everyone else…
Who’s looking after YOUR career and wellbeing?
Whatever you role, the people team is pivotal in shaping workplace culture, driving engagement, and managing talent: the custodians – and increasingly counsellors – of the workforce.
But what about your own performance, wellbeing and career progression? Who’s looking after YOU?
- It’s tough balancing strategic HR and casework – you haven’t time to do things to the standard you’d like
- You’re constantly worried about making a mistake that has serious consequences
- You doubt you’ll ever have the time to prioritise your own development above everyone else’s
“It’s hugely important that teams who give so much support and expertise are, in parallel, supported in their efforts to do so.”
David D’Souza, CIPD membership director, quoted in the 2023 People Management survey.
Coaching could be the support and development you need.
